I am a carnivore.
This diet, for 9 days, involves NO MEAT AT ALL.
Following the advice of a good friend who had done this before, and from a friend whose mother had done it, I decided to give it a try........FINALLY. I mean, seriously. FINALLY.
So today was Day 2 of this 9 day journey and it was my first day at work on this dietary plan. It should be noted that I work in a building that houses a culinary institute and, as part of their Fine Dining Lab, they have an activity called Compulsory. Compulsory is where, for free, employees are served by the students who have also set tables and prepared the menus and the food. The food is DELICIOUS!!!!!! And also fattening.
Thankfully Compulsory doesn't begin again until September, but regular lunchtime in the cafeteria is equally as awful. Fried deliciousness is everywhere and, when I go on vacations, I have things like this:

At some point recently, and I can't pinpoint when, I really recognized I had to do SOMETHING different than what I had been doing. If you keep doing what you've done, you keep getting what you got! And in that respect, I kept eating poorly and kept getting more pounds :). So it's about time to make that change and the drastic nature of Detox would get it done.
So, yeah, Day 2. I thought I'd be having more cravings by now, but I haven't. I'm not foolish enough to believe that I WON'T have any cravings, but I'm just glad I haven't had any yet LOL! In fact, I felt amazing! I had tons of energy and didn't need a sport beverage or 5 Hour Energy! It was a great feeling and I'm hoping it continues because it's that feeling that could inspire long term dietary change.
When people talk about food being an addiction, they are very serious. Comfort Food has that categorization for a reason and I've clearly identified my weaknesses and, in many instances, posted them for the world to see. But for the next 7 days, it's all about fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of beans LOL, and tons and tons of water.....and NO MEAT!
I'll return to my chicken, I promise, but in the meantime, black beans, lentils, natural seasonings, and water are what's for dinner.
Wonderful post. I've been a yo-yo dieter since my third and last child. It's been a tough roller coaster ride and I don't recommend it. I've tried vegan--semi-vegan diets over the years. The latter were unsuccessful stints. Like you..I'm a carnivore (sounds kinda of bad--right?) Over the years I've managed to cut down on the meat. Steak every once in awhile, ribs on the 4th and labor day. Mainly fish fried or sautéed in canola oil (the best I could do) baked skinned chicken breasts with seasonings and when I need some crunch they are wrapped in wheat flour and crushed corn flakes with herbal spices and Lawry's seasoning (the mainstay in many black kitchens) ✯◡✯ Oh I almost forgot to tell you about the treadmill in a room off the den. Well...o.k. I am trying to visit that area more often.
ReplyDeleteI commend you for your efforts to become healthy and your marvelous pics really show how important presentation is when you're eating like a bird!
BTW: those Reese's cups will sabotage you every time especially for those of us who are addicted to chocolate and peanut butter.
I missed you and I'm glad you're blogging again on this site. Take care Sister..peace and blessings.
